Our Schools

Our School

Strauss Preparatory School is a bilingual school offering learners the opportunity to learn in both English and the French Languages.  Located on a beautiful campus in the heart of the Maitama district of Abuja, we are host to an international community and admit pupils from diverse countries. At Strauss Prep we offer the British curriculum blended with Nigerian studies to give our pupils a balanced international education.  Our curriculum strategy is built on our world class “Diamond Standard”.  Pupils are taught in both English and French Language in all areas of the curriculum. Throughout their education in Strauss pupils are prepared for the various examinations within the British System as well as the DELF diploma which is the accreditation for proficiency in the French language.  At the end of their course In Year 6, pupils are also prepared for Nigerian entrance examinations.

Our curriculum approach is based on the belief that early bilingual learning develops cognitive abilities and helps children to construct a dual way of thinking. It also helps the child to eventually learn and use a third or fourth language.

At Strauss Preparatory School, children come first, and our priority is to deliver high quality bilingual education in a safe, caring, and happy environment. Being able to speak and write another language is a valuable tool on the road to individual success.  As the capital of Africa’s most populous country, Abuja offers all conditions for such an undertaking to succeed.  Pupils are prepared for a world that is within their grasp as Nigeria partakes in the Africa Continental Free Trade Area, AcFTA.  We prepare our pupils to be able to trade and collaborate with their closest neighbours in a continent that has more Francophone than Anglophone countries.

Bilingual education by immersion

Why?

At a time when Africa is uniting to form a single trade and power block to confront other super powers, international exchange and travel are on the increase and means of communication are improving, being able to speak and write in both of Africa’s’ and the worlds’ most popular languages is a valuable tool on the road to individual success.
Early bilingual learning develops cognitive abilities and helps children to construct a dual way of thinking.  The child therefore acquires the use of a second language without weakening the first one

What is bilingualism?

Bilingualism is the ability to speak and use a second language.  There are different levels of fluency depending on the frequency of interaction with the language.  At an early age, children are particularly inclined to learn languages and do so with ease. This ability fades with time.  Research shows that only a programme taught fully in two languages leads to totally bilingual children. When children are educated in this way in two languages, their cognitive development is significantly enhanced. The bilingually trained mind is better able to multi-task and to switch between topics without losing focus. And the younger it starts, the better.
